Jim Cramer Says Sell Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), Buy Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)

In a special edition of the “Sell Block” segment, Cramer said it’s time to get out of disk drive maker Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), after his colleague at TheStreet.com Ken Shreve flagged the company’s chart as being ready to drop dramatically. Shreve said that after the stock had a monster run off its March lows, the big money now appears to be leaving the stock. Following Seagate’s earnings report last week, the stock was hammered and finished at the low end of its weekly range on big volume. And the following week, Seagate took another 9.2% plunge on even heavier volume. Cramer agreed with Shreve’s call, saying that with 18 analysts rating the company a buy, and only 4 issuing a hold with just one sell, Wall Street has gotten too bullish on the stock. Another problem is that STX is increasing its 2010 capital spending to such a high level that it has raised fears of overcapacity. This is especially relevant in an industry like disk drives where the product is basically a commodity, and it has happened before in the past. Despite those risks, Cramer said he still likes Seagate because its cheap trading at 5.4 times its 2022 earnings with a 11% long-term growth rate. He explained that Seagate’s cheap valuation is probably why the analysts are bullish on the stock. However with the chart showing signs of a coming decline, he said he is forced to agree with Shreve. Cramer told viewers to avoid Seagate at current levels, and instead look at shares of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), a stock he holds in his charitable trust. Intel has a better balance sheet that’s full of cash, and it has a 3.2% dividend yield. Seagate has too much debt and pays no dividend. Cramer said if business is good for Seagate, it’ll be really great for Intel. “Plus, Intel’s last quarter was a true blowout with bullish guidance,” Cramer said. the scoop on tomorrow’s hottest trade ideas – TODAY!
