iPhone and iPod maker Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced early Wednesday that its its app store has reached 100,000 applications available for iPhone and iPod users – an achievement in less than 16 months in operation. “The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said in a statement. With the company’s number of apps available, AAPL is now significantly ahead of competition in the mobile app marketplace, dwarfing rival Android and Blackberry App Word.
